Time for a new Sketchy Challenge!{and a quick little tut!}

Hi everyone! Happy Belated National Scrapbooking Day { oops...I was too busy trying to do all the challenges at Scrapbook.com to do my own posting!}. I managed to get a couple done but didn't win any prizes { boohoo}. Congrats to all the lucky ladies who did win the awesome prize packs that Scrapbook.com was offering!

Well it's time for another Sketchy Challenge  over at Canadian Scrapbooker . Check out this fun sketch by Jill Sarginson!

 And here's my take on it!

I used Country Garden papers by Bo Bunny. They are so fresh and spring like....perfect for this challenge in my humble opinion. The cute little bees were made using a stamp from Local King Rubber Stamp . It's called "Busy Bees". If you look closely at the little sticks on my seed packets you can see another great background stamp by them called "Bark".Here's a close up of the bees.

It was a little tricky to cut out but so worth it in the end. It was attached using a popdot which gave the impression of the bees flying over the LO. I also painted the wings with a little bit of Stickles to give it a little sparkle.

I was especially pleased with how my sun turned out.

Here's a quick little tutorial on how I made it.

Supplies: Country Garden "Dots" paper { or any yellow paper}
               1.5" circle punch { mine is Fiskars}
               Dusty Durango ink from Stampin' Up
               small scissors

I started by  punching a circle from the yellow paper. I then cut a 2" strip from the Country gardens Dots pp { the yellow is the backside of it}. Using a loose wavey line I cut triangles from side to side from the 2" strip. Don't worry about it being perfect...it just adds to the relaxed look of it. I used about 16 "sunbeams" for my sun. You can always cut extra if you need them.

Now ink all edges with the Dusty Durango ink. As you can see by the last triangle in the next photo , I also inked the back side of the points. This is so that the orange shows when you curl over some of the tips after assembling your sun.

Next adhere the sun under the edge of the photo mat... make sure that you only use adhesive in the center of the circle. You'll need the edges to be free so that you can tuck in the individual sunbeams!

Now begin to tuck in the individual sunbeams. I layed them side by side and then added a second layer over the first, making sure to overlap the joins. Use  a bamboo stick or other round object to roll over a couple of the sunbeam tips and you're done!

That's it for today. I really hope you all got lots accomplished during this national scrapbooking weekend{ yah RIGHT! Like we need any excuse to scrap right? } LOL
Thanks for dropping by and happy scrapping! Toodles!
